Swim Expo Asia 2016, 2018 5-Event Finisher

The swim course started with calm and easy water that helps in the completion of the 3.8km swim, although it got rougher into the day. There were enough swimmers to set the competitive mood and not too many to make one feel claustrophobic in the water. As the race moved on, the breakdown of 5 different races with each being shorter help urged swimmers on with the mentality that if I have conquered the longer segments, the next one will be easier. With this, it helped me complete my longest open water swim to date. I like the nice touch of having a special commemorative plague with my name on it. It made me feel that I have achieved something special, rather than just having another nameless completion medal. The event was well organised with good cut-off time to encourage participants. I will definitely join again trying for personal best at each segment.

I find the concept of the 5 in 1 event quite interesting. It gives the seasoned open water swimmer a good combined distance off almost 9 km, while still allowing less trained open water swimmers to also join in one of the 5 events.

The fact that each distance you can complete without having to get out of the water is a big plus, compared to some other events where you have loops of 500 to 750 meters and you need to get out of the water after each loop.

For sure I will attend again as I find it the best location for open water swimming in Singapore (currents can be quite tough sometimes but that makes it interesting). Having such swim meets really are important and blend in nicely with my weekly trainings at Xlab masters in Yishun.

I believe Swim Expo Asia has a good concept and communication before and during the event has always been ok.

After completed the 5 events, I feel Energized, satisfied and looking forward to the next swim meet but mainly extremely hungry
